What age can a child start horse riding lessons?

At Teranga Stables we take riders from age 3 to age 9. A three-year-old is not really riding yet. Their first lessons are on the ground: brushing the pony, learning to lead it, and getting comfortable around a big, gentle animal. Riding comes as they are ready. By 5 or 6 most kids are walking and steering on their own, and by 8 or 9 they are working on posting and balance.

How much do kids' horse riding lessons cost in Winter Garden?

Every child starts with a First Pony Lesson: 30 minutes, $60, one child and one pony with an instructor. After that, a private 45-minute lesson is $100 on its own, or families reserve a weekly slot with a membership. Weekly Rider is $297 a month, which works out to about $69 a lesson. Plans go up to five lessons a week. There is a $45 annual registration fee, and founding rates are locked through December 31, 2026 for anyone who joins before then.

What happens at a first pony lesson?

You arrive ten minutes early, we fit your child with a helmet (we provide them), and the instructor introduces them to their pony. They brush, they lead, and when they are ready they get on and walk. The whole thing is built around the child's pace. You are welcome to watch the entire lesson.

What should my child wear?

Long pants and closed-toe shoes. Sneakers are fine for a first lesson. Boots with a small heel are even better once they keep coming. Bring water. We handle the helmet.

How do memberships work?

A membership reserves your child's day and time every week. You pick how many lessons a week, check out online, and within one business day we reach out to lock in the regular slot. It is billed monthly and you can cancel with 30 days' notice. If your child cancels a lesson at least 24 hours ahead, they get one make-up lesson that month.

Do you host pony birthday parties?

Yes. Pony parties at the farm start at $997 and include pony rides for the kids and time with the animals. Tell us the date, the number of kids, and the birthday child's age through the party request form on our site and we will send options.

Where is Teranga Stables?

16434 Davenport Road, Winter Garden, FL 34787. We are a five-acre family farm minutes from Horizon West, Windermere, Hamlin, and Orchard Hills, and an easy drive from Ocoee, Clermont, and Dr. Phillips. If your GPS stops at a neighbor's house, keep going until you see the Teranga sign.

Can we use a Florida scholarship for riding lessons?

Yes. Families using Step Up For Students, PEP, or FES-UA get an itemized receipt for every lesson so they can submit for reimbursement.

How do I book?

Book the First Pony Lesson online at terangastables.com, or text us at (407) 494-0521 with your child's age and a day that works. Two short waivers are signed online before you come, and you are done.
